![]() I am Melodee Michalares-Owens and the director of FTI (Florida Twirling Institute) I was born in Indiana where my parents both taught baton twirling and had the Indiana Twirling Institute. They met at a baton contest! My father Nick Michalares was the winner of the Chicago Musicland Festival which was then the equivalent of “Nationals”. He was one of the original founders of USTA (United States Twirling Association), He taught baton for years throughout southern Indiana and from the age of ten I assisted and twirled individually as well.I have competed in teams and corps for as long as I can remember winning many championships along the way. I later taught classes for Indiana Twirling Institute from the age of 16 and when I moved to Florida began to teach in what eventually became the Florida Twirling Institute. 2006 will be our 35th year ! I am assisted in my teaching by these terrific people!
We also have these fabulous and hard working team Moms for the 06-07 season!
