  Contest Tips

You must pay $4.00 per team that your child is a member of for team entry fees. Please pay this in cash to your team mom. Team mom’s will be announced at a later date. If you can bring your money to practice the week of the contest, it would be greatly appreciated.

All FTI group members, including parents, should sit together at all contests so we can cheer on our girls.

All team members with warm-ups should wear them to all contests.

All parents with FTI shirts should wear them. If you need a shirt or information on how to get one, see Melodee.

A donation will be collected at the door when you enter the contest. Twirlers competing that day are not charged.

Please be sure your batons & shoes are clean.

Be sure you have tights. Tights can be purchased at: Another Standing Ovation - 6212 - 54th Avenue North - 544-6010. You will need Dancskin - Classic Light Toast - Shiny.

All team members are to wear the side part. If you need help with this - please do not hesitate to ask any of last year’s team members. Thursday night team members are to wear the part as well as the curly hair scrunchie that matches your hair over the bun. Please make sure is it secure. If your hair piece falls out during the performance, we lose points.

We are judged on our appearance as well as our performance. Make-up for our performances should be heavy. Everyone should have on eyeshadow, lipstick and blush.

Team moms - please remember to help prepare the girls to go on the floor. They need to be ready to go on two teams ahead.

Some tips for making a contest day run smooth....

Keep a separate make-up or cosmetic bag packed for contests. Do not use these items at home in between contests....this way, you’ll be sure to have EVERYTHING you need the day of the contest! This bag should include the following items:

Foundation / Powder
Eyeshadow
Blush
Eyeliner
Mascara
Lipstick
Glitter Spray
Hair Ties
Hair Nets
Comb
Brush
Hairspray
Hair Gel
Bobby Pins
Safety Pins
Contest earrings

Other helpful items:

Band-aids
Q-tips
Make-up sponges
Extra eyeshadow applicators
Make-up brushes
Make-up remover clothes

Keep a separate bag for costumes.
This bag should include the following items:

All costumes & accessories.
Tights - it’s always good to have an extra pair or two.
Cougars and jazz shoes (if used).

Costume Care

Be sure to hang your costumes up after a contest. This helps in “airing” them out and keeps them from getting wrinkled.

Most costumes can be washed in lukewarm water in the sink with Woolite or Dawn dish liquid.

Run lukewarm water in the sink with the Woolite or Dawn. Put the costume in and “swish it” around for a few minutes. Rinse THOROUGHLY and roll up flat in a towel to get the excess water out, then hang it up or lay it flat to dry.
